What People Say About Our Workshops

“Amazing high end craft courses run by amazing and talented tutors in fabulous surroundings…I think I’m addicted.  The courses are immense value for money as the skills and techniques learned will repay the cost many, many times over both physically, with products made subsequently and gifted/sold, and emotionally as the feeling of self-satisfaction and pride in completed projects is overwhelming.  Each course I’ve done so far has been very relaxed and  extremely educational, taught by witty and approachable folk.  I dare anyone to not come away from a Make it in Wales course without a huge sense of joy and achievement.  I highly recommend them!” – Lynne

“I’ve attended a couple of local workshops. The first was at Cardigan Pizza Tipi, where I upholstered a little milking stool using traditional methods and materials. Such an enjoyable day with a memorable lunch of delicious pizza eaten outside at this fab riverside location. And a souvenir to take away in the form of an exquisite piece of furniture that I still look at and can’t believe I made!  At the time I declared it to be the best workshop I’d ever been on…but since then I’ve been on more! Next was a series of 4 related workshops that I booked as a birthday treat for myself. Intermediate Sewing with Suzi Stitch. 4 consecutive Fridays spent in cosy comfort at St Dogmaels Coach House along with a wonderful group of kindred spirits. We learnt, we laughed, we stitched, we admired, and we didn’t want it to end. I still miss those Fridays. It has to be said that Make it in Wales workshops are a bit special. Quality from start to finish, and personally I can’t wait to do more.” – Janet

“These courses are great fun and excellent value. They can open doors for you stimulating interests in different crafts. You spend time with like-minded people, enjoying learning something new, what could be better?!” – Nicky

Parties and Hen Do’s

Intermediate Sewing

“Anyone who missed this course missed a treat (and that includes the banana cake every week!). Suzi is a wonderful teacher with the patience of a saint and with a whole heap of fabulous fabrics and threads which she shares very generously. I learned so much and am now motivated to get on with using different methods of embroidery and stitching. I would repeat this course another time because there is still so much to learn. The group was amazing, the venue ideal, and I wish I could go there every week and do some more sewing with Suzi. Thank you Make it in Wales for another brilliant course.” – Michelle

“Suzi is an exceptional teacher with the patience of a saint (I was a teacher for many years and know the challenges of teaching art and craft, involving equipment, machines, multi-skills, etc. and constant demands for help.) I learned a lot and came away feeling enthusiastic, with new skills, and with much more confidence in using my machine. Suzi also had an awareness of the ‘group’, as well as each individual, and brought us all together. Let us not forget the CAKE. It is because of Suzi’s enthusiasm and vision that we are able to enjoy courses like this, which fulfil so many various needs other than practical ones. I shall return. Thank you.” – Carole

“Suzi was a great teacher who understood every students needs and abilities. She never got frustrated when someone couldn’t achieve the task and was very one on one with each learner. It was very lovely to hear about her past experiences in sewing and that she too started out as an amateur. It was inspiring to see her previous work and her exciting plans for the future. Being a part of the class which was very welcoming and fun made me want to take part in the other courses available and keep learning. Thank you Suzi, you have inspired and lit a fire within!” – Lili

Primitive Pit Firing and Vessel Making

“Fantastic tutor! – So much knowledge of the subject and a great teacher. I loved this weekend and have learnt lots. Pete is a great tutor. The course was very well orgaised. I loved the beach bit where we got clay from the cliffs. It added to the experience in that I felt like we saw the process from start to finish. Pete’s knowledge of clays and the area made the experience really special and not run of the mill. A fantastic course all round! – Thank you!” – Esther

“Excellent tuition! I achieved what I wanted and can progress from here. Food and venue really good too.” – Caroline

“A great opportunity for creativity in a rural setting bringing recognition to makers within the area.” – Emily

Decorating Ceramics

“Peter was terrific – the amount of preparation he put in and the work he had to do afterwards was enormous, and the supplies he provided were wonderful, not to mention the source books and pre-workshop presentation. A lovely man who was generous with his time and knowledge. Considering how much work Peter had to put in and the wonderful eats and drink provided it was exceptional value for money. The courses I have done have been very well organised and have been of an extremely high standard. It is always very satisfying to come away with something I have made!” – Michelle

All those who attended received the most wonderful support and encouragement throughout the day.  To have such a talented upholsterer as Mick teaching us was a real privilege.  He was VERY patient and happy to step in and help whenever he was needed. Also, a big thank you to Suzi for organising and who was on hand throughout the day and gave us so much support, as well as endless supplies of refreshments!  Everything was done to make us as comfortable as possible.  I came away with an upholstered milking stool that I absolutely love and am now keen to attend another course and build on what I’ve achieved. “Had a great day feeling fully immersed and learning a completely new skill. Covering the stool was straightforward enough to be doable, but still a really satisfying process explained very clearly. Upholster a Drop-In Seat

“This was an excellent course. Mick was a brilliant teacher, lots of time for each of us as well as teaching us in groups too. He is a perfectionist and equally wanted us to achieve perfection. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the company of the others in the group. It was a very inclusive and supportive group with the bonus of fun too. Thank you to Suzi too, I received a lovely welcome from her plus she provided us all with regular refreshments.” – Sue

“Excellent course with an excellent tutor. Thoroughly enjoyable!” – Cheryl

“Excellent course. Well paced, learnt a lot and went home with a piece of furniture that I could be really proud of. Although Mick says he’s not a teacher, he is good at explaining, and has a very good sense of when to intervene and when to let you get on with it. You make something under close guidance step-by-step, but feel that you have completed the article yourself. Highly recommended.” – Fiona

Traditional Welsh Quilting

“This was an excellent two day course. Lesley was a very patient and extremely good teacher. The venue was very good and there was plenty of tea and coffee throughout the day. The material was beautiful wool from the local woollen mill and there was a good choice of colour mixes. I was delighted with the results – although the actual matching and making was much harder than I thought it would be. The whole experience was very rewarding and I would highly recommend it, as I would all the Make It In Wales courses.” – Michelle

“Had a fabulous 3 days on this course. Our tutor was really knowledgeable and more importantly for me, very patient. A fabulous two days, a lovely tutor and lovely venue. Will definitly come again.” – Liz

Indigo Dyeing & Shibori

“Enjoyed this course so much! Cath, the tutor, was amazing, patient, generous and knowledgeable. There was plenty of room (and a wood fire, which was greatly appreciated as it poured with rain for two of the three days). We were made very welcome, with lovely and interesting food in abundance, and interesting people from many different backgrounds. The course was suitable for people completely new to dyeing, and those with experience. I’d do it all again in a second.” – Chris

“This was a very good course and lived up to all my expectations. The tutor was knowledgeable and very patient. It was great to get our hands into the dye and not worry about the mess. The venue was in lovely countryside and a perfect place to explore indigo dying. The food was excellent with everyone’s needs catered for. Altogether three unforgettable days with lovely people and plenty of inspiration to continue with indigo and shibori.” – Jude

“Really great upbeat three days – relaxed but very industrious! Great to put time aside to dedicate to working with indigo alongside like minded people. Tutor was really helpful and informative. Catering really good. An all round thoroughly enjoyable few days.” – Carole

“I thoroughly enjoyed this course. It was very well run, everything we needed was supplied and our course tutor, Cath Lewis was an inspiring teacher. I had purchased some silk for dyeing but Suzi had brought silk, linen, cotton and wool and we tried them all. Cath actually taught us how to make an Indigo vat, not just how to use one and, after she had demonstrated lots of different tying techniques, allowed us to develop our own special interests. We all ended up with favourite materials and tried inventing our own patterns.
The food was lovely, and our hostess even very kindly made gluten-free meals for me. All in all, it was brilliant. I thought it was a bit pricey at first, but looking back I got very good value for my money and I am very glad I did it. I would definitely encourage others to have a go. I am still dyeing, with indigo and now with Procion dyes as well, Cath opened a door for me and I am immensely grateful.” – Nicky

“Coming away with the pattern/ pattern block is going to be invaluable – I’ve already bought some dot & cross paper and a pattern master ready to get started on my next one! I feel reinvigorated in terms of sewing. Also, hidden zips, overlocking skills, adding more pattern notches, the best way to design facings…the list is many! Nikki is professional, friendly, knowledgeable and happy to give us the individual attention to make sure that we all achieve what we came for. It was obvious that her passion came from years of experience and a love for her role. Helen was a delight to learn from. Professional, reams and reams of experience, shared lots of technical information and hugely passionate. I learnt a lot about dressmaking techniques. Helen has a very clear way of breaking the steps down and explaining what and why.” – Julia R

“I didn’t come with any expectation on learning, just the idea of a holiday and coming away with a lovely frock. Having said that I feel I learnt so much and now feel confident to make more clothes and understand how a pattern works. Both tutors are excellent, know their stuff and are generous and sharing with their knowledge.” – Sharon

“A very warm welcome greeted me in the form of Suzi, and my room in the house was perfect, comfortable, clean & a nice size with sea views. I learned so much from Nikki & Helen. Both were perfect teachers, so patient and took their time to explain and re-explain as necessary. Both lovely ladies with a wonderful sense of humour. I was worried my learning style would be too slow but they really do cater to your needs & give as much hands on/off as you need. I now know how to make my own perfect little black dress & I will be making more in lots of colours & fabrics. I’ve been given the confidence & learning tools to continue & improve my sewing skills as well as having made friends that I know I’ll keep in touch with. For me this was worth a long travel from Scotland & I look forward to attending further courses in the future. If you’re hesitating over the price or location or even your own sewing skills, don’t! Go for it, worth every penny & I promise you won’t be disappointed.” – Sara

“Helen is extremely professional and has a very approachable nature. She is very patient and puts people at ease immediately. She is definitely the type of person who wants to help others and wants to bring out the best in them. Her teaching practice was second to none, very clear communicating technical terms and very clear demonstrations.” – Claire

“I enjoyed every aspect of the course, I don’t have any dislikes from the week. Fab people and amazing, talented teachers. They have so much patience.” – Michelle

“I’ve loved every minute of it! This has been a brilliant course and I would recommend it to anybody with an interest in or some background/experience in sewing. The food, hot tub, surroundings, house…Tutors were fantastic – patient, helpful, entertaining, great company and super hardworking. Can’t fault them in any way. This is a perfect creative retreat by the sea – a chance to think about barely anything but sewing until you go home – with a dress you’ll wear for years.” – Claire R

“I loved it all, not one aspect was dull! This is the first sewing course I had ever been on and wasn’t sure what to expect. It was excellent! I learnt so much, it was fun, I made lots of new friends. I now have a pattern perfect for me and not only do I have the LBD but have a LRedD, a LBlueD, and a white linen one for the summer, I am constantly on the look out for fabric to add to my wardrobe (in my case floordrobe) and I like to look out for accessories to attach…Lace, bronglyongly (my way of saying and spelling it)! The accommodation was first class, I bet no other sewing course in the country would have a house like Bryn Berwyn, with hot tub and sea views and by the beach with a waterfall, what more could one ask for? Oh yes I forgot to mention the lectures -they were brill, and lastly the food was exquisite! Thank you x” – Gilly

“Nikki is helpful, patient, kind, funny, a wealth of information, open, honest and inclusive. A ray of sunshine. Helen’s skills are exceptional and she has the patience and generosity to pass these on.” – Julia

“Thank you ladies. I’ve had a fantastic few days on the made to measure dress making course. I LOVE the dress. From having very limited experience of dress making, to being able to make my made to measure dress, is amazing. I can’t thank you enough. I’m inspired to make make more dresses now.” – Liz

“Had such a fabulous time on this course. Learnt lots, met lovely people, the accommodation was wonderful, had fun and the food and wine  were excellent too! Would love to do it again with a different shape dress next time.” – Tracy

“Sewing is a pleasurable pastime and it has been a great holiday, with amazing people and food”. – Donna

“Had a great day making my Open Spine bound book at Carole King’s workshop on Wednesday. Lots of different papers to choose from for the cover so this time I picked a very girly, red-hearts on blue background – definitely not my usual choice! Bit fiddly in places, but we all finished on time and everyone’s was very different. I love my book so will use it for all the small sketches and paintings I have done over the years rather than just look at a beautiful – but empty – book!” – Jacqueline

“Very good value course. The book I produced was really good, even though I say so myself. Lunch was really yummy.” – Julie

“Great day yet again. Many thanks to you all. I feel I have achieved and learnt a lot today.” – Sue

“I had a brilliant time at the Ceridwen Centre today and was pleased with the book I made, roll on the next workshop!” – Louise

“Was a fun day, learning a new skill, in a great venue, good food and a very good teacher, notes that went with the course are well written.” – Karen

Botanical Prints and Eco Dyeing

“Excellent course content – a lot learned and the pieces we took away with us at the end of the day are absolutely gorgeous and I will definitely wear my scarf. The venue was perfect with lots of space to work and make a mess. Claire was a great tutor, very approachable and knowledgeable and Suzi is just so helpful and friendly. Lunch was provided and it was wonderful! Home cooked, and so tasty – as we had vegetarians and gluten-free folks with us their dietary needs were catered for and we all had the same but it was so deliciously yummy it was not obviously specialised – Juliet is an amazing cook. I will be booking again and I highly recommend this workshop 5/5.” – Lynne

“I think I have found a new hobby with felting which is lovely, thank you. I would like to thank Ruth as she was a very relaxed and warm teacher who was very informative and supportive. Thank you all.” – Meryl

“Thoroughly enjoyed the day, learning new skills and socialising with like minded individuals.” – Jane

“Enjoyed the day very much, the weaving was well geared to a 1 day course and you were able to achieve a great looking scarf. Food was lovely and the whole atmosphere very enjoyable.” – Sue

“I had a lovely day learning to weave with Dunja. The beautiful setting, friendly people, quality materials and patient, knowledgeable tutor made it a very pleasurable day and I was very pleased with the results. I had a spare day’s holiday unexpectedly and wanted to make the most of it and quietly industrious time learning with lovely people is always time well spent.” – Caroline
