For our first MiiW Hen Do, we had the pleasure of hosting 19 lovely hens for a day of relaxed crafting in beautiful surroundings. They carved silver rings from jewellers wax in the morning and sewed beautiful bunting in the afternoon, with a wholesome home-cooked lunch in between. We loved hosting this lovely group of ladies!

Set in a beautiful hill-top location in the rolling Welsh hills, the Ceridwen centre was the perfect location for our first MiiW Hen Do.

Our hens gathered around a big table, giggling and excited, to settle into their first workshop of the day: Carve a silver ring with tutor Maggie. We saw a range of different designs emerging from the jewellers wax; some carved with a craft knife, some created texture with sandpaper, some poked holes, added extra pieces, engraved initials, one lady even created a heart-shaped button for her ring! That’s the beauty of this workshop – anything goes! No matter if you’re stuck for ideas or under-confident in your skills, with a little guidance and some encouragement, your dream ring will slowly and surely appear. And besides, everything looks good in solid silver!

An afternoon making bunting

After a homemade lunch of veggie chilli, nachos, salsa and guacamole, and a lemon cheesecake dessert, lovingly prepared by the chefs at Ceridwen, the hens were back at the table for round two of crafting. Our sewing queen-bee, tutor Helen Rhiannon Gill, was on hand to teach the ladies how to sew a line of bunting. After choosing their material (from a huuuuge selection!) the Hens took their time whilst cutting out, pinning and, finally, sewing their five triangles of fabric onto one line of ribbon. They finished off by adding buttons & ribbons to complete their designs. The bride and her mother chose to sew their bunting together to create one long beautiful line, a special gift for the lovely bride.

Its always such a delight to see our makers truly pleased with their efforts and proud of themselves, maybe even a little surprised at what they were able to achieve.

We enjoyed the day so much and we hope the ladies did too. They ended their crafty day and hopped back on the bus for a night out in Swansea – got to include some hen do traditions too ey?!
