Design your own yarns only – 10.00am – 12.30pm £35
Design your own yarns followed by creating a 3D fabric vessel – 1.30 – 4.30pm £65
Design your own yarns using unwanted or damaged items from your wardrobe. Choose to stay on for the afternoon session and transform your yarns into a recycled 3D vessel.
Morning Session (10am – 12.30pm)
In the morning’s workshop you will be taught a clever technique for producing a continuous length of ‘yarn’ from your unwanted fabrics or garments. Once you’ve mastered the technique the possibilities are endless. The yarns you design can be used in a multitude of craft applications from knit, crochet, sewing project, visible mending, decorative items or even to make 3D vessels!
A t-shirt is a great starting point but actually you can convert anything into useful yarns, even any surplus plastic bags you might have hanging around the place. This workshop is suitable for anyone and sewing machines will be provided. Just bring along a t-shirt, a plastic bag or anything else you’d like to see transformed!
In this workshop you’ll learn how to create a continuous length from a flat piece of fabric alongside an awareness of the possible applications for this skill. Choose to stay on for the afternoon session and transform your yarns into a 3D vessel, either practical or fantastical and decorative.
Afternoon Session (1.30 – 4.30pm)
This workshop follows on from the ‘Design your own Yarns’ workshop, providing you with the opportunity to use your own yarns made in the morning to create a 3-D vessel made purely of yarn and threads. You will have the opportunity to make a 3-D shape of your own design, this could be a practical item in the form of a small bowl or a fantastical decorative piece. Tutor Nia Lewis is a textile designer and community artist.
